Robot Garden continues its sponsorship of Aviation Explorer Post #997. Post 997 is one of the newest youth activities in the Tri Valley area. It is being hosted in a hangar at the Livermore Airport. Great participation so far. There are now 25 youth participants with nearly half of them female.
Post Leader Tom Manger is partnering with Robot Garden to facilitate numerous hands-on activities to help youth explore careers in the fields of aviation and aerospace. Their hangar now hosts a flight simulator and space for building rockets and working on programmable quadcopter. There are opportunities to explore multiple STEM topics.
Explorers have also been building sheet metal tool boxes recently to learn the same skills needed to build airplanes. A kit plane has been recently donated to the post so they will have the opportunity to put those skills to use.
Recently two professional grade flight simulators were also donated and should be operational sometime this summer. Six post members are preparing to start flight lessons. And, they are getting ready to start hosting sessions where local Boy Scouts can work towards Aviation related merit badges.
