Please join us for some exciting updates on this project as well as next steps we’re planning for the next few months.
If you don’t already know, Robot Garden is working to build up to 45,000 sqft of new hangars at the Livermore Municipal Airport. These hangars will become our new makerspace. This project is currently called the Tri-Valley STEM Center. — http://www.TriValleySTEM.org
The original plan was to build near the old terminal building on the north side of the airport. There has been resistance to this particular location.
After recent urging from interested parties at the airport, we are now looking to build on the south side of the airport. This changes the game.
The south side is zoned for hangars and is largely undeveloped. There are both pros & cons to building on the south side. But, in February we are planning to submit a Letter Of Intent with a revised proposal to build on the south side of the airport. We expect little pushback.
It is now solely up to us to build momentum and make this project happen. We have a lot of community support to get this built. I now need assistance from local families, makers, educators, aviation and other STEM community members to get to the next stage.
A quick note on an upcoming event… In June of this year Livermore Airport will be hosting the first ever AOPA* Fly-In. There will be 700-800 small planes flying in and parking at the airport for a weekend of seminars, sightseeing, networking and socializing. This is a major outreach, fundraising and marketing opportunity for us. So, we have much to do between now and June. I will be meeting with an AOPA “advance team” on site next week to start planning this event.
At this Feb 10th meeting, I am looking to form a number of committees that will strategize and move this project forward. Marketing. Social Media, Fundraising. Grant Writing, Construction. Planning. Public Outreach. Please, think about how you might be able to invest your time and assist this project.
Hope to see you there. Please, forward this event info to anyone you think will be able to assist in these efforts. If anyone wants to help but can’t make this particular meeting, please, contact me directly.
We’re full steam ahead!! :<)
