Target platform

We’re targeting a simple, inexpensive platform titled ROS ROV Rev 1. This name is filled with acronyms. Expanding the acronyms leaves you with quite a mouthful: Robot Operating System Remote Operated Vehicle Revision 1.

Rev 1 is a little like a radio controlled car. Of course the same approach can be used with different tools on different platforms.

Magician Chassis

The magician chassis is simple, inexpensive and easy to assemble. It’s sufficient for an initial platform. These are the Magician Chassis Assembly Instructions.

We’re starting by using the Teensy Arduino Micro-controller. It’s an inexpensive, low power controller. A great way to start learning Arduino programming and DC electronics. Arduino’s are used in many robots, both as the primary computing platform and as sensor and actuator controller.
